Vicente Moncho

Vicente Moncho (born July 10, 1939 in San Juan (Argentina) ) is an Argentine composer and violinist.

Moncho studied violin at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and also took violin lessons from Humberto Carfi . Between 1962 and 1965 he was violinist in various chamber orchestras in Buenos Aires, as well as in the orchestra of the Teatro Argentino in La Plata. In 1965 he continued his musical training in Córdoba and studied composition from 1972 to 1974 at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba with Teodoro Fuchs and Miguel Corrado . His thesis, the composition Transmutations , was performed in 1975 at the Teatro Colón .

Moncho was professor of music history, harmony and composition and from 1985 to 2008 for instrumentation and orchestration at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. As a member of the Cultural Secretariat of Córdoba (from 1978 to 1998) he organized the Jornadas de Música del Siglo XX between 1982 and 1986 , and in 1987 he was coordinator of the 33rd World Congress of Jeunesses Musicales International . Between 1995 and 2001 he was a member of the board of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).

In 1994 Moncho won the composition competition of the Consejo Argentino de la Música , in 1999 he received the Grand Prize of the Argentine Copyright Association in the category of chamber and symphonic music, and in 2001 the Prize of the Argentine Music Criticism.
