Multiplicity
Multiplicity (including multiplicity ) is a mathematical quantity, are counted with the objects or characteristics that occur more than once. If an object occurs three times in an environment, for example, it has a multiplicity of 3. The multiplicity is examined in particular for the following objects:
- Eigenvalues: In the case of eigenvalue problems in linear algebra or functional analysis, the algebraic multiplicity and the geometric multiplicity of an eigenvalue are examined.
- Zero and pole points: In a curve discussion , the multiplicity of zero and pole points is often referred to as order.
- Elements of a multiset .
- Edges in multigraphs : Edges with a multiplicity greater than 1 are called multiple edges.
- Prime numbers in a prime factorization .
