history

The fountain was donated by Consul Schmidt and inaugurated on August 21, 1881. The overall planning of the fountain was carried out by the Kassel Academy Director Hugo Schneider and the stone carving work by L. Herzog from Hildesheim. The well was 7.50 meters high (including the weather vane) and the well bowl was 5.5 meters high. Although the city center of Kassel was largely destroyed in World War II , the fountain survived it undamaged.

As part of the reconstruction of the city and redesign to make it a car-friendly city, the fountain was dismantled in 1952 and stored in the building yard. The further whereabouts of the well are unknown today.
