The four-point oil beetle ( Mylabris quadripunctata ) is a beetle from the family of the oil beetle (Meloidae).

features

The beetles are 13 to 16 millimeters long. Their elytra are red and each have four black spots and a black end band on the rump.

Occurrence

The animals are common in the Mediterranean area, love sunny, flower-rich places and are flower visitors (e.g. on Dorycnium ). They fly from June to October.

Way of life

The larvae develop in the underground egg cocoons of grasshoppers .
