View - See what is happening in the world (own spelling: VIEW ) is a general interest magazine published by Stern magazine. With this magazine concept, the focus is on the images. The magazine has been published monthly since October 2005. The sold circulation is 54,299 copies, a decrease of 57.6 percent since 2007.

The magazine was developed by Stern Art Director Tom Jacobi, Stern News Director Hans-Peter Junker and Brigitte Baumann. From 2005 to 2008 Tom Jacobi was editor-in-chief of the magazine, from 2008 Hans-Peter Junker. In September 2018, the magazine's independent editorial team was dissolved. Since then, the magazine has been produced by the Stern's editorial team. In July 2020, editor-in-chief Junker was replaced by the new editor-in-chief Giuseppe Di Grazia.

Content

View presents large format photos from all areas of life. The magazine was originally divided into three sections: The Pictures of the Month , The Report of the Month and The People of the Month . There are now categories such as palpitations (emotional story at the beginning), moments (photo scenes of the month), story , report or title . The scope is approx. 150 pages including advertisements.

Photo community

To view belonged to a private online community - the view photo community. In each issue of the magazine, selected images from this photo community were published on several pages. The View photo community also published a free e-paper every month . In addition to user-generated content , photos from the View magazine were also shown here, for which the photographers passed on technical data and photographic tips. On August 19, 2019, Gruner + Jahr announced that the View photo community will be closed on October 16, 2019.

Awards

The photographer Jim Gehrz was honored at the Lead Awards 2006 in the category reportage photography for the contribution “The soldier Jessica Clements” in View 10/2005 .

The View photo community was mentioned as web community of the year at the Lead Awards in 2008 .

The Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) has already awarded the magazine several times:

  • 2007 for the VIEW report "They call him the Lionheart"
  • “Bronze-Nagel” 2008 for the report “Don't look at me like that”, published in VIEW 1/2007

Edition

Like most German magazines, View has lost circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by 57.6 percent since 2007. It is currently 54,299 copies. This corresponds to a decrease of 73,800 units. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 31.4 percent.
