Viktor Spěváček
Viktor Spěváček (born November 24, 1888 in Klatovy ; † July 4, 1941 in Theresienstadt concentration camp ), a Czechoslovak soldier, legionnaire and general, as well as a member of the Obrana národa resistance group, a figure in the Czechoslovak resistance 1939-1945 against National Socialism .
Life, military career
From 1899 to 1907 Viktor Spěváček attended a grammar school in Prague and began to study law in 1907, which he interrupted in October 1908 and entered the army. Then he worked as a bank clerk. After the outbreak of war he joined the 58th Infantry Regiment and went to the Russian Eastern Front. He was captured in 1916 and then joined the Czechoslovak legions in June 1917 . In June 1920 he returned to his homeland with the rank of captain.
From August 1920 Spěváček worked in the Ministry of Defense and completed his law degree in the following period. In July 1926 he was appointed a military control officer. From April 1928 he was deputy head of the control corps of the military administration. In November 1936 he became head of a finance department. Spěváček was promoted to general in July 1937. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Wehrmacht and during the dissolution of the Czechoslovak armed forces , he made contact with the military resistance organization Obrana národa . He was able to channel at least a significant portion of the Defense Department's funds to the organization. However, his activity in the resistance organization was discovered and Spěváček was arrested in the autumn of 1939. After interrogation and without trial, he was taken to the Theresienstadt concentration camp , where he died on July 4, 1941.
