Johann Balthasar Probst
Johann Balthasar Probst (* 1673 in Augsburg ; † December 1750 there ) was a German engraver .
Life
Johann Balthasar Probst was a pupil of the Augsburg engraver and publisher Jeremias Wolff , whose daughter he married. After the death of his father-in-law he continued to run the publishing house '; later his sons, including Johann Friedrich Probst , under the company Jeremias Wolff Erben . Johann Balthasar was buried in Augsburg on December 13, 1750.
He mainly made copper engravings based on painted portraits, but also ornamental engravings. His illustrations for Cupid, who was indeed fiercely inflamed, but who would be hidden and triumphant over Pantalon's supervision, were employed by clever dreamers in a competition. Or Arlechin the living painting and ridiculous Cupid. (1729).
