Vila Chã de Ourique is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Cartaxo . It has 2,771 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
According to the hypotheses of historians, the Battle of Ourique may have taken place here in 1139 , which is considered to be the date of the founding of Portugal . In the vicinity of the village, a so-called Kochberg mountain was excavated, which could contain the remains of the dead.
