Vila Gorongosa is a Mozambican city in the Sofala Province . Before Mozambique gained independence in 1975, the place was called Vila Paiva de Andrade .

Vila Gorongosa is located at 380 m in the Gorongosa district of the same name . To the east lies the Gorongosa National Park . In 2008 the Municipio Gorongosa was established.

According to a 1997 census, Gorongosa had 11,968 inhabitants.

The first President of the Conselho Municipal da Gorongosa is Moreze Cauzande from FRELIMO after the election on January 29, 2009 .
