Vila dos Cabanos
Vila dos Cabanos is a settlement in the municipality of the municipality of Barcarena in the state of Pará in northern Brazil . The settlement is located around 20 kilometers southwest of Belém and around 7 km from the main town of Barcarena. It borders directly on the beach of Caripi ( Praia do Caripi ).
The place can be reached via the PA-483 and PA-151 . The place and beaches are located at the confluence of the Bay of Marajó and the Bay of Capiri , the latter fed by the Rio Capiri .
history
The settlement was built in the mid-1980s for employees and members of the companies Alumina do Norte do Brasil and Alumínio Brasileiro ( Albras ) as a planned town. The aluminum companies had acquired real estate and in 1985 built two large plants in the Amazon rainforest in Barcarena near the river path. The Vila dos Cabanos company settlement was created as an open settlement, equipped with a complete infrastructure such as roads, standardized houses, schools, drinking water supply, electricity, telephone and sewerage.
Vila dos Cabanos is managed as a “micro-área” within the city administration structure of Barcarena, as are the Vila do Conde, Vila de Itupanema and Vila de São Francisco, which are part of the municipality.
In July 2020, Albras donated a 70,000 square meter sports facility to the city of Barcarena, which is located in Vila dos Cabanos.
In a publication on urban quality of life in the Amazon region, the place was also referred to as the Nova Barcarena .
