Vilar is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northwestern Portugal .
history
Mámoas like the Mamoa de Ínsua document a settlement at least since the early Bronze Age .
The present location was documented for the first time in a document from the year 908.
With the territorial reform of 2013 , the municipality of Vilar was merged with Mosteiró .
administration
Vilar was the seat of a parish of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the Porto district . The community had an area of 4.3 km² and 1628 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
The community consisted only of the place of the same name.
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Vilar and Mosteiró were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Vilar e Mosteiró . Vilar became the seat of the newly formed parish.
Sons and daughters of the church
José António de Azevedo Lemos (1786–1870) was born here. General Lemos was the most important commander in the Miguelistenkrieg (1832-1834) on the side of the absolutist King Michael I against the victorious liberals under King D. Pedro IV., Who as D. Pedro I. became the first emperor of Brazil .
