Vilius Navickas (born October 14, 1959 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian politician . He was mayor of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius from February 11, 2009 until December 15, 2010. He is a member of the Fatherland League ( Tėvynės Sąjunga ) party .

biography

Studies, professional career

Vilius Navickas finished his studies in civil engineering in 1982 and then worked as an inspector at the state motor vehicle authority until 1991 . After Lithuania's independence from the Soviet Union and the associated change to a market economy , he worked in the free economy, including as head of the “Veda” car dealership in Vilnius, as a consultant at the cable manufacturer Eurokubas in Vilnius and most recently as director of the construction company “Euro- Construct ”in Vilnius. At the beginning of 2008, the company "Euro-Construct" was criticized in connection with illegal construction activity in the Vilnius villa district Žverynas, but Vilius Navickas was acquitted of the accusation of inadmissible confusion of private and public interests.

Political career

Vilius Navickas has been a member of the conservative Fatherland League ( Tėvynės Sąjunga ) party since 2001 . In 2007 he was elected to the Vilnius City Council for this party , where he was active in the Economic Committee. On February 8, the opposition (Conservatives and Liberals) announced that, with the support of the Social Democrats and the Group of Independents , they would vote out the incumbent Mayor Juozas Imbrasas and elect Vilius Navickas as mayor in his place. This election took place with 29 out of 51 votes at a meeting boycotted by the parties of law and order, which had ruled until then, and the Polish election campaign . After initial resistance, Imbrasas handed the official business over to Navickas on February 12th, and his appeal against his election was declared unfounded by the District Administrative Court on May 25th, 2009 in the first instance.
