Raimundas Alekna
Raimundas Alekna (born April 16, 1959 in Subačius near Kupiškis ) is a Lithuanian doctor, psychotherapist and politician , member of the Seimas and Minister of Health of Lithuania , former athlete.
Sports career
In 1977 Alekna graduated from the boarding school in Panevėžys and in 1978 was a Lithuanian youth champion in athletics - all-around . From 1976 to 1980 he was a squad of the Lithuanian national athletics team. After the fracture of the right arm, he was not healed sufficiently and could not continue to compete as a decathlon athlete.
education
After graduating from the sports boarding school in 1977, Alekna was only admitted to medical school after her third application attempt in 1979. From 1979 to 1985 Alekna completed her studies at the Medical Institute in Kaunas and in 1986 interned in psychiatry as a psychiatrist . In 1993 he became a top-tier psychiatrist and in 1997 a first- tier medical psychotherapist . From 1990 to 1992 he was an assistant at the psychiatry clinic of the Kauno medicinos akademija .
politics
From 1995 to 1997 Alekna was a councilor and deputy mayor of Panevėžys Municipality . From 1997 to 2000 he was a Seimas member. From 2003 to 2007 he was a member of the Vilnius Municipality . From 2009 to 2010 he was an advisor to the Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius . He was Mayor of Vilnius from December 15, 2010 to April 19, 2011 . His successor in office was Artūras Zuokas .
Alekna has been a member of the conservative Tėvynės sąjunga party since 1993 .
Other offices
From 1997 Alekna was vice-president and later president of the Lithuanian Association for Transactional Analysis ( Lietuvos transakcinės analizės asociacija ). From 2002 to 2006 he headed the Vilnius Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis . From 2003 he headed the Lithuanian triathlon sports association Lietuvos triatlono federacija .
family
Alekna is married twice. He married his first wife in the sophomore year and has two sons with her. The second wife was married after eight years and has a son and a daughter with her.
