Kupiškis (German, 18th century: Kupischken ; later: Kupischki ) is a town in the Rajongemeinde Kupiškis , in northeast Lithuania with about 8,000 inhabitants, east of Panevėžys district center .

The place was first mentioned in 1529 and received city rights in 1791 . The name is probably derived from the river Kupa, which flows into the Lėvuo here. The place is on the main road and railway line Šiauliai - Daugavpils . A new bypass route directs long-distance traffic south of the city.
