Jonas Prapiestis

Jonas Prapiestis (born August 2, 1952 in Kupiškis ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, criminal judge , criminal lawyer , professor at Vilnius University and former politician , Minister of Justice of Lithuania .

Life

In 1975 Prapiestis graduated from the Law Faculty of Vilnius University with a degree in law . From 1978 to 1982 he studied as an aspirant at Lomonosov University in Moscow and received his doctorate as a candidate in law. He then worked as an assistant and legal scholar in Vilnius.

From February 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the Seimas . From November 1992 to March 1996 he was Minister of Justice of Lithuania , then until 2005 he was a judge at the Lithuanian Constitutional Court . Since July 2005 he has been a judge of the Lithuanian Supreme Court and since December 2007 he has been the chairman of the Criminal Matters Division (the Criminal Senate).

Jonas Prapiestis has been teaching as a lecturer since 2005 and as professor of criminal law (general part) at Vilnius University since 2011.

Jonas Prapiestis is married and has two children. Both are lawyers.
