Supreme Court of Lithuania
The Supreme Court of Lithuania ( lit . Lietuvos Aukščiausiasis Teismas , LAT ) is the highest court in the ordinary jurisdiction of Lithuania .
The Supreme Court of Lithuania is the only body of cassation . The Supreme Court is responsible for reviewing final judgments, decisions, orders and resolutions of the generally competent courts. The Supreme Court is responsible for developing uniform case law in the interpretation and application of laws and other legal acts.

history
The Supreme Court of Lithuania was established on June 15, 1994 on the basis of the law “Dėl Lietuvos Aukščiausiojo Teismo, Lietuvos apeliacinio teismo, apygardų teismų įsteigimo, apygardų ir apylinkių teismų veiklos teritorijų nustatymo” (Žin., 1994, no.50-932). He started his career on January 1, 1995.
composition
The LAT is divided into senates , each with a presiding judge and an assessor . Aukščiausiasis Teismas consists of 37 judges (on January 1, 2009 there were 34 judges).
The court consists of a civil and criminal senate .
Judge
A total of 34 judges worked in the LAT ( 2009 ):
- Court president,
- Presiding judge for civil matters ( civilinių bylų skyriaus pirmininkas ),
- Presiding judge for criminal matters ( baudžiamųjų bylų skyriaus pirmininkas ),
- 16 criminal judges,
- 15 civil judges.
The average age of the judges is 53 years.
