history

The school was established in 1964 instead of the children's penal institution ( Vaikų kolonija ). The initiator was Jonas Babravičius (1928–2013), head of Lietuvos futbolo federacija . From 1965 to 1989 the school was headed by the heavy athlete Edvardas Žvirblis (* 1935). In 1990 the school was reorganized by the Panevėžys Town Council . After that, two different schools were built: the 19th Panevėžys Middle School (today the “Senvagės” Panevėžys Secondary School) and the “Olimpas” Sports School (now the Panevėžys Sports Center). In 2014, the Panevėžys Sports Middle School was established.
