Villa-Lobos Trio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa-Lobos Trio is a piano trio based in Vienna .

Act

The ensemble, founded by the Brazilian Rosângela Antunes and the German Katrin Schickedanz, has dedicated itself entirely to cultivating the South American piano trio literature. Heitor Villa-Lobos , one of the most important Latin American composers, is the namesake of the piano trio.

In addition to numerous concerts and appearances in Europe (especially Austria and Germany), the Villa-Lobos Trio made concert tours to Kenya , Jordan and the USA , consciously seeing itself as an ambassador and mediator between cultures.

Time and again there is intensive collaboration with contemporary Latin American composers: In 2004 the Argentinian conductor and composer Lucio Jorge Bruno-Videla composed the work "Yumba Metamorphosis" for the Villa Lobos Trio.

In autumn 2011 the ensemble and its producer Markus Wallner were nominated by the Latin Recording Academy for the Latin Grammy Award in the category Best Classical Album.
