Villa Borgnis
The Villa Borgnis is the spa house of Königstein im Taunus .
The health resort in Königstein has existed since 1851. However, the city's wish for its own health resort was only fulfilled in 1927. On August 13 and 14, 1927, the Villa Borgnis was ceremoniously opened to the public as a spa house.
Emergence
However, the current building was constructed much earlier. At the beginning of the 19th century, the “Gasthaus am Grünen Baum” existed at Hauptstrasse 21. This property and the park behind it (today's spa park) was acquired by Matthias Franz Borgnis in 1838 as a summer residence. Borgnis was a wealthy Frankfurt banker , jeweler and tobacco manufacturer. In 1847 he retired from active professional life and lived as a privateer in Königstein during the summer months.
Villa Borgnis was built in the Black Forest style in 1860 . Even after the death of Matthias Franz Borgnis, the house and park remained in the family's possession and were expanded several times. An extension was added in 1870 and a veranda in 1878. The owners were now Anna Borgnis, the daughter of Matthias Franz Borgnis and her husband Franz Josef Borgnis. Their son Alfred Borgnis , honorary citizen of the city of Königstein, sold the property in 1923 to Martha Mathias, who sold the house and park to the city in 1926.
Kurhaus
After a year of renovation, the house was used as a spa house from August 1927. The first tenant Fritz Ehrlicher, who had previously managed the Kurhaus in Bad Soden am Taunus , was responsible for the catering . The house soon became the center of public life and the venue for a wide variety of events. In 1947, for example, the Young Union of Germany was founded in Villa Borgnis .
Between 1976 and 1997 the building was also the seat of the city library. 1997 to 1999 the house was closed for a general renovation and reopened on May 1st, 1999.
Today the building is used as a health resort. A restaurant / café and a wine bar take care of the physical well-being. Furthermore, the registry office of the city of Königstein is housed in the house.
