The Villa Caro is a historical building in Gliwice and the seat of the museum in Gliwice .

Location and description

The Villa Caro is located in the city center on Niederwallstraße (ulica Dolnych Wałów) near the old town . It was built for the Upper Silesian industrialist Oscar Caro in neo-renaissance style. Villa Caro has belonged to the Oberschlesisches Museum in Gleiwitz since 1934 and has been the seat of the museum since 1945. The building was extensively renovated between 1991 and 2000.

The 1885 design for the Villa Caro comes from the architects Ernst von Ihne and Paul Stegmüller , but it was not implemented in the form presented. The layout and the essential elements were adopted. a. the grand stairs and the arrangement of the state rooms.

The “ Wachender Löwe ” monument is located in front of the villa .

The Villa Caro department houses the arts and crafts department and the ethnography department. The museum houses the permanent exhibition of the living quarters of Villa Caro and the permanent ethnographic exhibition.
