The Watching Lion is a sculpture in Gliwice . The Watching Lion is located on Niederwallstraße (ul. Dolnych Wałów) in front of Villa Caro .

The figure was cast from cast iron in 1824 in the Royal Prussian iron foundry in Gleiwitz . The waking lion with the sleeping lion was designed by Christian Daniel Rauch . The sculpture was created by Theodor Kalide in cooperation with Daniel Rauch. The guarding lion has stood in front of Villa Caro since 1934. Before that, the sculpture stood on the site of the iron foundry at the staircase of a building.

The sculpture depicts a reclining lion with its head erect. In addition, there are also two reclining lions and a former sleeping lion in Gliwice .
