Charles Gordon-Lennox, 10th Duke of Richmond

Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond , 11th Duke of Lennox, 6th Duke of Gordon ( September 19, 1929 - September 1, 2017 ) was a British politician and nobleman .

He was the elder son of Frederick Charles Gordon-Lennox, 9th Duke of Richmond , and his wife Elizabeth Grace Hudson. As an apparent marriage of his father, he led from his birth the courtesy title Lord Settrington , from 1935 the courtesy title Earl of March and Kinrara . When his father died in 1989, he inherited the title of Duke of Richmond , Lennox and Gordon .

He was at Eton College educated, served in 1949 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, studied at William Temple College in Rugby and was established in 1956 as an accountant certified.

He held numerous civil, business and church offices. He was, among other things, Chancellor of the University of Sussex , Church Commissioner and Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex from 1990 to 1994. Seat of the Duke is Goodwood House near Chichester .

Through the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost the seat in the House of Lords associated with his nobility titles .

Gordon-Lennox married Susan Monica Grenville-Gray in 1951, with whom he had the following children:

  • Lady Maria Gordon-Lennox (* 1959) ⚭ Mr. Handy;
  • Lady Naomi Gordon-Lennox (* 1962) ⚭ Gavin Burke.
