Villa Crespi

The Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio ( Piedmont ) is a Moorish style residence built in 1879 as the country residence of the Italian cotton industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi .

The building, visible from afar thanks to its minaret- shaped tower, is an example of oriental architecture in Italy. Its builder, who also had the industrial settlement of Crespi d'Adda built, is said to have chosen this style as a sign of his ties to the Orient, especially Baghdad . Especially under Crespi's son Silvio Benigno Crespi (1868–1944), one of Italy's most influential industrial tycoons until 1929, and under the subsequent owners, the Marchesi Fracassi di Torre Rossano, the villa became a meeting point for the country's aristocratic, industrial and political upper class.

Today there is a small luxury hotel in the villa.
