Cristoforo Benigno Crespi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cristoforo Benigno Crespi , (born October 18, 1833 in Busto Arsizio , † January 5, 1920 in Milan ) was an Italian cotton industrialist.

The cotton industry built up by Crespi in the Italian Wilhelminian era has left the workers' settlement of Crespi d'Adda , which is now categorized as a world cultural heritage , as an industrial monument . The Moorish-style Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio ( Piedmont ) is an interesting example of exoticism in Italian architecture. Crespi's son and heir, Silvio Benigno Crespi, was one of the most influential members of Italian industry until his company went bankrupt in 1929 and was a signatory to the Versailles Peace Treaty .
