Villa Imperiale (Pompeii)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa Imperiale is located in Pompeii and was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius . In 1984 it was excavated by archaeologists . A barrel vaulted room A , the cubiculum B and the triclinium C are still preserved . Her wall painting was also exposed. It can be assigned to the early 3rd style / candelabra style of Roman wall painting.

The paintings are not particularly well preserved. The predominant colors are black, red, yellow, green and white. As a stylistic feature, there is a central image that is surrounded by fields of different colors. Architecture is only hinted at: the delicate pillars would no longer be able to support the entablature in nature , they are more like candelabra .
