Villa Lahusen
The Villa Lahusen is located in the Lower Saxony town of Delmenhorst, right next to the former factory of the North German Wool Combing & Worsted Spinning Mill (in short: North Wool). The factory owner's villa is a listed building .
history
From 1886, Christian Lahusen had a representative house built right next to the Nordwolle factory. At that time it was common for the manufacturer's villa to be on the factory premises. It differs significantly from the neighboring production facilities in terms of its external facade, as it is the only plastered building in the facility. The location on the site was chosen wisely, as the prevailing westerly winds protect the property from the unpleasant smells of the neighboring plant.
The original building resembled a small country house. In 1888, the company founder Christian Lahusen handed over management to his son Carl Lahusen . He and his wife moved into the villa that had just been completed. In the next 23 years the couple had nine children, so that by 1910 Carl Lahusen had the building expanded into the large, nested villa that has been preserved to this day. After his death, his son and successor Georg Carl Lahusen moved the family's residence to Gut Hohehorst near Schwanewede . Today the Delmenhorst building is privately owned and divided into over 14 residential units.
The wool park
In 1893, Carl Lahusen commissioned the garden architect Wilhelm Benque , who had made a name for himself as the designer of the Bremen Bürgerpark , with the creation of a park around the villa, the wool park that is still partially preserved today.
