The Villa Matschatsch (also Schloss Matschatsch ) is located in South Tyrol in the area of ​​the municipality of Appiano , southwest of Bolzano . The villa is located at 887  m slm height on the Mendelpassstrasse ( SS 42), after bend no. 5 above the Gandberg.

history

In the 16th century the building belonged to a certain Matheis Pernstich, who probably sold it to the von Fuchs gentlemen.

In the 18th century the Franzin family is named as the owner, from 1806 the Schasser von Kaltern . They expanded the property into a summer villa. In 1887 the facility was owned by Di Pauli. They rebuilt the property again and used it as a summer residence.

In 1953, the municipality of Eppan acquired the villa and expanded it.

Architectural style and special features

During the renovation work at the end of the 19th century, Villa Matschatsch was redesigned in a historical style in the Überetsch style . On the southern side, a small semicircular chapel with a dome and lantern adorns the front. Around the villa there are some sequoia trees from 1908, which are now marked as natural monuments and with a height of up to 50 m clearly tower above the building and the surrounding trees.
