The Villa Maurer is a listed building in Potsdam. The villa is in the Nauener Vorstadt , Puschkinallee 6.

history

The villa in what was then Capellenbergstrasse 6 was built in 1890/91 for guild carpenter Ernst Maurer. The builder is unknown. "The guild carpenter [...] was responsible", but whether "[...] Maurer designed the building himself must remain open." In 1891 he also submitted a building application for a stable building with a coach house and coach house. Maurer did not live in the villa himself, but rented it out. The residents included the general of the cavalry Emil von Albedyll and the general of the cavalry z. D. Adolf von Bülow .

In the Potsdam address books for 1905 and 1907 the pensioner Adolph Renner is noted as the owner and in 1909 Carl (Karl) von der Goltz , who at that time was a major in the staff of the 3rd Guard Uhlan Regiment (according to the entry in the address book for 1912, Lieutenant Colonel and Wing Adjutant of His Majesty the Emperor and Commander of the 3rd Guards Uhlan Regiment (according to the address book for 1914 Colonel and Wing Adjutant of His Majesty the Emperor).

From 1922 at the latest, Lieutenant General z. D. Erich von Redern the next owner. In the years that followed, ownership changed several times between Erich von Redern and his second wife Else von Redern, née Kaempf (1877–1933). From 1934 at the latest, the property belonged to Fritz Kemmler, Lieutenant a. D. and bank clerk, in the address book for 1938/39 factory owners. However, Erich von Redern lived in the house until 1936/37.

During the GDR era, the villa belonged to the City of Potsdam and was used by the Potsdam City District Court from 1952 to 1989 . The building, which was vacant after the fall of the Wall, has been privately owned since the early 2000s.

architecture

The building, erected on an almost square floor plan, is single-storey with a basement and a French-style mansard hipped roof . The converted attic is illuminated through arched twin and triple windows . A central projection with rounded corners protrudes from the seven-axis building front, with a balcony in front of it. The facade is decorated with baroque details and plaster bands . The entrance area is on the north side. There a stone tablet commemorates one of the residents:

“In this house lived in retirement / from 1893 to 1897 / THE GENERAL OF THE CAVALRY / E. VON ALBEDYLL / Adjutant General u. Chief / of the military cabinet / EMPEROR WILHELMS DES GRAND / […] of the Queen's Cuirassier Regiment / last commanding general / of the VII. Army Corps / born. April 1, 1824 / d. June 13, 1897 "
