Villa Mayer in Heilbronn

The Villa Mayer is located at Gutenbergstrasse 30 in Heilbronn and was built in 1912 by Theodor Moosbrugger for the manufacturer Ernst Mayer. The villa is a listed building and a beautiful example of the Neo-Baroque in Heilbronn , a variant of late historicism .

history

The villa was built in a large park in 1912 for Ernst Mayer (* 1850 in Bad Wimpfen, † 1922), who founded the envelope factory of the same name in Heilbronn in 1877. After the Second World War it was first used by the American armed forces. In 1950 the villa was owned by the State Rent Office, Dept. of Wehrmacht Assets. The district education office was housed in the building, and an apartment was rented on the upper floor. In 1961 the villa became the property of the city of Heilbronn and was used by the city hospital. In 1983 it was sold to a private owner who had it extensively restored and has since used it as a private hotel.

description

The secular building with two and a half floors is a building with a hipped roof and dormers . The building has a central projectile with a gable with a segmented arch as the upper end, which is flanked by volutes. The building has a winter garden on the garden side, which shows the shape of a half cylinder. Above the winter garden there is a bay window with a terrace, which is again held in the shape of a half cylinder.

Joachim Hennze, architecture and art historian and head of the Heilbronn lower monument authority, describes the style of the villa as follows:

In 1912, Moosbrugger took a different approach to the design of the villa for the manufacturer Ernst Mayer at Gutenbergstrasse 30: the central projections dominate here with its coves and the pleasing gable, the mansard roof with the dormers, the bay window and the semicircular terrace with the flight of stairs Garden side. This is the language of baroque palace architecture that the architect knows how to use here in miniature. "
