Medici Villa Camugliano

The Villa Medici of Camugliano , also Villa Niccolini , is a Medici villa east of Ponsacco in the province of Pisa .

Alessandro de 'Medici , the first Duke of Tuscany , decided to build a large country estate here , also for strategic reasons, to secure access to Pisa and the sea. In the second half of the 16th century the property went to Giuliano Gondi as a reward for service rendered. Matteo Botti gave it back to Cosimo II. De 'Medici on December 25, 1615 after his appointment as Marchese of Campiglia d'Orcia (today part of Castiglione d'Orcia ) .

On September 23, 1637 Ferdinando II. De 'Medici sold the property to Filippo Niccolini and at the same time appointed him Marchese of Camugliano and Ponsacco.

The Niccolini had some structural changes made, such as the double staircase ramp to the Loggetta. The park was redesigned as an English garden. The villa is still owned by Filippo Niccolini's descendants. These are currently expanding the area surrounding the historic building in order to increase profitability.
