The Villa Munzinger is a residential building at Willy-Brandt-Platz 5 in Kaiserslautern . The building is a listed building.

location

The building with a small garden is now located on Willy-Brandt-Platz and is framed on two sides by the Pfalztheater . The garden side faces Willy-Brandt-Platz, which divides the square.

history

The villa was built in 1892/93, presumably according to plans by the architect Ludwig von Stempel for the brewery owner Charlotte Kafitz. In 1995 the wall paintings by the painter Jakob Rumetsch were uncovered in the stairwells.

architecture

The two-storey brick building with a mansard roof was built over a high sandstone base in the style of the Wilhelminian era with historicizing elements . A central risalit with a curved gable and pyramid tower protrudes from the former garden facade . Rich sculptural jewelry made of sandstone adorns the house, especially the risalits, on which a cartouche with the owner's initials is attached. On the ground floor on the south corner there is a winter garden with a roof terrace, which is protected by an elaborate balustrade. There are frescoes in the semicircular window lunettes on the first floor . Sandstone cornices divide the building horizontally.

The interior of the villa was lavishly designed. You enter the building through a foyer with marble columns, tiles and rich stucco decorations with cornices supported by consoles. The remaining rooms are also decorated with lavish stucco. In the entrance area there are Roman acanthus paintings and views of Rome, in the winter garden there are architectural representations. Wall paneling in the style of neoclassicism and rich door frames round off the impression of a stately villa. A colorfully glazed window from the time it was built illuminates the stairwell. The door of the entrance portal is richly carved and is framed by a heavily profiled wall.

The small garden in the west is enclosed by a fence with walls and pillars made of sandstone and wrought iron grille.

Current usage

Today the administration of the Pfalztheater is housed in the building.
