The villa was in 1905 designed by Frankfurt architect Hugo Eberhardt for the Knorr - General Gustav Pielenz built (1862-1944). Hugo Eberhardt also built the Plappert and Berberich villas in Heilbronn in addition to the Pielenz villa . With his Heilbronn villas he introduced the English country house architecture in the region.

In 1950 the villa belonged to the doctor Julius Gutmann, who was married to Gustav Pielenz's daughter Gertrud (1896–1988). The two lived at Oststrasse 79. The ground floor of Villa Pielenz was occupied in 1950 by the insurance agent Richard Rümelin. The tobacco shop Paul Betsch, run by Helene Hönig, was on the first floor. In addition, three apartments were rented. In 1961 Paul Röser, who lived at Gymnasiumstrasse 35, bought the villa. The residents were the sales manager Dittrich Freiherr von Berlichingen, the pastor Theodor Walter and the tax officer Ernst Schütz.

description

"With a combination of quarry stone masonry on the ground floor and shingled upper floors, a facade with rusticated window groups and windows and dormers, Hugo Eberhardt achieved an example of functional objectivity in the manner of the master builder Hermann Muthesius."

- Bernhard Lattner

The design language, influenced by the models of the architect Hermann Muthesius , can be recognized by the use of quarry stone masonry on the ground floor and shingles on the upper and attic floors. The shape of the roof is typical of Hugo Eberhardt's work. In particular, the interior design of the villa is entirely dedicated to the principles of New Objectivity . The layout, equipment and technology of the interior design correspond to the style of the 1920s.

Art historical significance

The building is part of the modern age, which was shaped by Hermann Muthesius and was therefore placed under monument protection:

“A high quality document of progressive villa architecture based on the example of English country houses. This conception of architecture initiated by [...] Hermann Muthesius is [...] readable. The mighty, structured roof landscape is a main leitmotif of both the English country house style and the work of Hugo Eberhardt. "
