Theodor Oskar Gustav Pielenz (born March 8, 1862 in Calmbach , † September 19, 1944 ) was a German manager and general director of the food company Knorr .

Life

Gustav Pielenz's father was Karl Gustav August Pielenz (1826–1902), his mother was Wilhelmine Therese Pielenz, nee. Hummel (1830-1901). He did a commercial apprenticeship in Heilbronn and later gained one year of professional experience in Le Havre and three years in a large trading company in Manchester. On December 1, 1888, he joined the company as a traveler, succeeding Christian Eberhardt , the first sales representative and later board member of Knorr. As a close collaborator of Carl Heinrich Eduard Knorr (1843–1921) and Alfred Knorr (1846–1895), Pielenz received power of attorney in 1894. In 1899, when the company was converted into a stock corporation, he and Christian Eberhardt were appointed to the two-person board.

Alexander Knorr writes in his Knorr Chronicle:

“On October 6, 1916, the board member, Mr. Gustav Pielenz, became a royal in recognition of his commendable and particularly successful work on the board of CH Knorr AG and his efforts to feed the people during the war. Wuerttemberg Commercial Council appointed. "

On November 16, 1923 he was appointed chairman of the board meetings. He stayed at the helm of the company for more than 12 years. Directly after his 37 years of service on the board, he was elected chairman of the supervisory board in May 1936. Pielenz described in a speech

"This choice as the culmination of his commercial career."

In March 1940 Gustav Pielenz, together with board member Alexander Knorr, fended off the vehement demands of the NSDAP district leader Richard Drauz for a position on the board of directors of Knorr, which the latter responded with abusive letters.

Gustav Pielenz worked for Knorr for a total of 56 years and made a significant contribution to the rise to a global company. He was also a member of the supervisory board of several other Heilbronn companies, the advisory board of the Heilbronn Chamber of Industry and Commerce and a founding member of the Rotary Club in Heilbronn.

In 1905 he had the Villa Pielenz built at Wollhausstrasse 93 in Heilbronn according to plans by the Frankfurt architect Hugo Eberhardt .

Gustav Pielenz had been with Marie Pielenz, b. Raetz, (April 16, 1875 - June 1, 1949) married. The two had several children: Gertrud (1896–1988) married the Heilbronn doctor Julius Gutmann. Lothar Pielenz (born June 4, 1897 in Heilbronn) died as a lieutenant pilot on July 16, 1918 in Boeblingen. Alfred Pielenz (1898–1989) also worked for the Knorr company after the First World War , where he was a member of the management board from 1929 to 1931 and a member of the supervisory board from 1949 to 1958. Daughter Johanna, called Hanse, (born January 14, 1901 in Heilbronn, † May 21, 1964 in Heilbronn) married the entrepreneur Dietrich Bruckmann in 1924 . Daughter Liese, called Bibi, (1902–1982) was married to Hans Rümelin. The youngest daughter Meta Marie Charlotte Pielenz (1903-1904) died as a toddler.

Gustav Pielenz died on September 17, 1944 at the age of 82. He was buried in the Heilbronn main cemetery not far from the Knorr family grave.
