Dietrich Bruckmann
Dietrich Bruckmann (born July 16, 1896 in Heilbronn ; † November 21, 1967 ) was a German entrepreneur . From 1937 to 1967 he was the owner of the Peter Bruckmann & Sons silver goods factory in Heilbronn.
Life
Dietrich Bruckmann was the second son of the Heilbronn entrepreneur and politician Peter Bruckmann , his mother Johanna was a daughter of the Heilbronn businessman Louis Link . He had an older and a younger brother and an older sister, with whom he grew up in a villa at Cäcilienstraße 51 in Heilbronn, which his parents had taken over from his mother's father, Louis Link.
After the death of his older brother Peter, who died of pneumonia in March 1920 , Dietrich Bruckmann was prepared to succeed his father at the helm of the family's silverware factory. In the winter of 1920/21 he went to the Wellner silver factory in Aue , Saxony , for an internship of several months , where he learned the basics of silver processing and worked at the grinding bench and polishing machine himself.
In 1923 he joined the Bruckmann silver goods factory as operations manager, which he ran together with Fritz Schober (1867–1954). In 1930 he introduced the production of cutlery made of nickel silver . After the death of his father in 1937 he was appointed personally liable partner . As early as 1936, silver had been quota due to a lack of raw materials, and in the next few years Bruckmann produced less and less cutlery and more and more armaments such as grenade detonators and aircraft parts. The factory peaked at 1,700 employees in 1943, including many civilian slave laborers .
During the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944 , 80% of the Bruckmann factory site was destroyed. In two smaller companies that were relocated to Adolzfurt and Eberstadt during the war , the company started again just a few weeks after the end of the war with the production of utensils such as aluminum cutlery, kitchen utensils, screws and lighters made from other armament materials. The Heilbronn factory was gradually rebuilt, and a modern administration building was built in the early 1950s. In 1953 Dietrich Bruckmann's son Peter and in 1959 his son Hans joined the company.
Dietrich Bruckmann was a member of the Heilbronn local council for the FDP / DVP from July 13, 1946 to November 15, 1953 , where he was involved in the reconstruction of the city. He was also Vice President of the Heilbronn Chamber of Commerce , member of the executive board of the Association of the Precious Metals Industry and a member of the Rotary Club Heilbronn.
family
Dietrich Bruckmann married Johanna Pielenz in 1924 (born January 14, 1901 in Heilbronn; † May 21, 1964 in Heilbronn), daughter of the Knorr board member Gustav Pielenz . From this marriage the sons Peter Bruckmann (III., 1926–1994) and Hans Bruckmann emerged. His second marriage was to Edith Frank.
