Susana María del Carmen Villarán de la Puente (born August 16, 1949 in Lima ) is a Peruvian politician and was mayor of the Peruvian capital Lima from 2011 to 2014 .

Live and act

In the 1980s, Villarán de la Puente worked on the “Vaso de leche” school breakfast program for the Lima Metropolitan Administration. After Alberto Fujimori's resignation , she took over the post of Minister for Women and Social Development in the interim government of Valentín Paniagua Corazao . In 2006 she ran for the presidency of Peru, but failed. In 2010, her party Fuerza Social (FS) put Susana Villarán de la Puente up as a candidate for mayor's office. She won by a narrow margin against Lourdes Flores Nano (PPC) and became Lima's first female mayor.

On March 17, 2013, Susana Villarán de la Puente and a large part of the city council had to face a referendum for voting. She herself was just confirmed in office, but her party lost almost all of the seats on the city council. After the next mayoral election in October 2014, however, she lost her office again to her predecessor Luis Castañeda .
