chess

The chess department of Vimaria Weimar emerged from the merger of the chess departments of Motor Weimar and Rotation Weimar. In GDR times, Weimar was known for its good youth work and won various individual and team titles in the GDR youth sector.

Especially in girls' chess, the successful work could be continued in the new club. In the 1990s Vimaria Weimar had a team in the 1st women's Bundesliga for a longer period of time. The better-known players included Marina Olbrich , Camilla Baginskaite and Petra Krupková . Since there were no offspring of their own and some players left the club due to professional changes, the team was withdrawn after the 1998/99 game series due to the lack of suitable players for the Bundesliga. After youth support came to a complete standstill in the following years, there has been a youth department again since 2006.

In the 2010/2011 season Vimaria I made it to the top division. However, the promotion was only possible with their own players, but not relegation in the following season.
