Penal Castro Castro

The Establecimiento Penitenciario Miguel Castro Castro Miguel , short Penal Castro Castro , is a prison in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho in the Peruvian capital Lima . It is located east of the city center.

The prison is divided into 12 blocks. It has 5,700 inmates. The director is Luis Martel Bernal.

history

Members of the Maoist guerrilla movement Sendero Luminoso have also been imprisoned in Lurigancho in the past . In June 1986 there was a major prison revolt both here and in Santa Barbara and El Frontón, in which hostages were taken. The rioters demanded the release of 500 prisoners accused of terrorism. 100 people were executed by the police and the military. 124 rebels were also executed. The revolt was put down by the Peruvian army after a few days .

During a military action between May 6 and 9, 1992, 42 inmates of the prison were extrajudicially executed; several hundred inmates were injured.

In 2005 and 2008 further riots broke out, which also claimed several lives.

In August 2010, the Dutch drug trafficker Jason Sanford Staling Conquet killed his 22-year-old friend Leslie Dayán Paredes Silva in the detention center during visiting hours and walled the body in the cell.
