Vincenz Vecko

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vincenz Vecko , Czech Čeněk Vecko ( 1830 in Rozdialowicz - June 13, 1874 near Prague ) was a Czech opera singer (tenor).

Life

Vecko's voice was discovered in Leitmeritz in 1861 . In 1863 he made his debut at the Czech Opera in the Prozatímní divadlo in Prague as “Manrico” in Verdi's Il trovatore .

In 1865 he went to the German State Theater in Prague. Attempts at another theater failed despite the fullness of his tenor, which was particularly brilliant in the high and highest registers, due to his poor German pronunciation, which sounded downright ear-offensive (Eisenberg).

In 1873 he ended his career early because his voice was attacked by excessive forcing and an irregular lifestyle. He retired to his small estate near Prague, where he died of a lung disease on June 13, 1874.

His major roles were "Edgardo" in Lucia di Lammermoor , "Masaniello" in La muette de Portici , "Raoul" in Les Huguenots , "Robert" in Robert le diable and the Duke in Rigoletto .
