Vincenzo Aita

Vincenzo Aita (born September 14, 1948 in Eboli , Salerno province ) is an Italian politician ( PCI , PRC , SEL ). He was a member of the European Parliament from 2006 to 2009 .

Aita was a functionary of the Partito Comunista Italiano , he was a member of its central committee from 1975-83. From 1980 to 1985 he was a member of the Regional Council of Campania , from 1983 to 1996 he was a member of the Eboli Municipal Council. Aita did not go along with the 1991 change of the Communist Party to the Democratic Left Party , but instead joined the Rifondazione Comunista, which remained true to the goal of communism. From 2000 to 2004 he was the Campania Regional Councilor for Agriculture.

In the 6th electoral term (2004-09) he was a member of the European Parliament as of June 19, 2006. There he and his party were part of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left and sat for them in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development . He was also a member of the delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula . In 2009 he left the PRC and joined the Movimento per la Sinistra (MpS) by Nichi Vendola , which a little later became part of the Sinistra Ecologia Libertà (SEL) party.
