Violeta Cruz

Violeta Cruz (born August 27, 1986 in Bogotá ) is a Colombian composer living in Paris .

Life

Violeta Cruz graduated with Harold Vásquez and Guillermo Gaviria at the Pontifical University Xaveriana in Bogotá in 2009 with a higher degree in composition. She then went to Paris, where she continued her studies in the composition class of Stefano Gervasoni at the Paris Conservatory . In 2013 she took part in the composition and computer science course at IRCAM . In 2016, she went to the Villa Medici in Rome for three months as a laureate of the Académie de France .

In 2013 her orchestral piece Cyanea was premiered in London by the Southbank Sinfonia. She also took part in the academy of the festival “Manifeste” of IRCAM with Intersticios 3.99, her “acousmatic” music for the film Plus Tard by Éric Oriot. Her piece God Name was produced at IRCAM the following year as part of the composition course . On behalf of Accentus , she composed the choral work The Lake of my Mind, which was premiered in 2016 by the Jeune Chœur de Paris. Her opera La princesse légère , commissioned by the Paris Opéra-Comique , premiered at the Opéra de Lille in December 2017 .

Her works include instrumental works and electronic compositions, including so-called "sound objects". These are mechanical devices that sometimes generate random rhythms and whose sound is alienated with the help of interactive electronics. She is particularly interested in the relationships between sound and basic elements such as water or light. Her compositions have been performed in several European countries, Colombia and Peru.
