The violet-gray owl moth ( Cymatophorina diluta ) is a butterfly from the family of the owl moth and sickle- winged moth (Drepanidae).
features
According to their name, the front wings of the moths are purple-gray, whereby the wing is divided into three parts by two brown cross bars. These stripes are bordered in black in the middle of the three wing sections. The hem field and the central band are dark gray, while the hind wings are white.
Occurrence
The animals are particularly found in Central and Southeastern Europe and the southern parts of the British Isles . In the east, they are distributed as far as the Black Sea . Their preferred habitat are light and warm oak forests.
Way of life
Flight and caterpillar times
The animals fly in one generation from early August to early October. The caterpillars are found from May to June.
Food of the caterpillars
The caterpillars feed on oak trees ( Quercus ).

The caterpillars of the moths are dirty white and live in the crown region of their forage plants. They rest in a horseshoe shape in leaves that are woven together. Pupation takes place in or on the ground, overwintering takes place in the egg stage.
