Virgilio Ferrari

Virgilio Ferrari (* 1888 ; † June 12, 1975 in Milan ) was an Italian doctor and politician of the PSDI .

Life

Ferrari was a doctor in the field of bronchial medicine. During the fascist era, he was arrested in 1931 for aiding in Filippo Turati's escape to France. In 1943 he was interned in Bolzano.

After the liberation, he became a member of the Milan City Council in 1946 and was elected mayor of Milan in 1951 to succeed Antonio Greppi . During his ten-year tenure, he revitalized the city with major infrastructure projects such as the construction of the subway and the expansion of Forlanini airport .
