Virginia's Eastern Shore AVA is a 176.64 hectare wine growing region in the US state of Virginia . It was recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1991. The grape varieties Chardonnay , Cabernet Franc , Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot , among others , are grown .

location

The area on the east coast of the state of Virginia extends over the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula . The wine-growing area is in the counties of Accomack and Northampton . The height above sea level is a maximum of 15 meters, the soils are sandy.

climate

The region's climate is mild all year round and is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and the location on Chesapeake Bay , which limits the cultivation area to the west.
