Virginia López (singer)

Virginia López ( Dolores Virginia Rivera García ; born November 29, 1928 in New York City ) is a Puerto Rican singer.

López began to sing as a child, imitating the famous Libertad Lamarque . In the early 1950s she recorded her first record with guitarist Luis Lija . Ten albums followed with Chago Alvarado , the member and composer of the Trío San Juan . The first international successes brought the titles Tan lejos and Cariñito azucarado .

It became very popular in Mexico through radio broadcasts in the mid-1950s. She traveled there in 1957, and recordings with RCA Records such as Osito de felpa , Por equivocación and Te odio y te quiero made her voice known throughout Latin America, many European countries and Japan. In Mexico she also met her future husband Charlie López . She was awarded the Discómetro de Oro in Mexico and won the Festival de Codazos Prize in Puerto Rico in 1958 . In the 1960s she largely withdrew from the music business. In 1972 she resumed her career with an appearance in Mexico.
