It is the third tallest building in Ghent after the Artevetztoren and the Belfry and is one of the tallest buildings in Belgium .

history

On March 11, 2010, the official design of the building was published. The design by Mauro Poponcini and Patrick Lootens (Polo Architects) was selected from the five best entries. Pay particular attention to the quality, architecture, energy efficiency and sustainability. After the design was announced, Euro-Immo-Star announced a competition to find a name for the building. The name should reflect the identity of the building, the district and the city of Ghent. The jury chose De Link from more than 350 entries . After the laying of the foundation stone, however, it quickly became clear that De Link would only be the working title of the building. The building was officially inaugurated as Virginie Lovelinggebouw , based on the writer Virginie Loveling who died in 1923 .

Construction of the building began in summer 2011. The official laying of the foundation stone took place in December 2011 in the presence of Ghent's Mayor Daniël Termont. Construction of the branch began in August 2012. The highest point of the tower was reached in early November 2012. Construction work on the building was completed on January 20th. On February 13, 2014, the building was officially opened and handed over to the employees of the Flemish government.

The building consists of a 3-storey building that is L-shaped and almost 18 meters high. This branch should serve for public functions, among other things as exhibition space or as an event location. The tower is located in the immediate vicinity of the tracks of the Ghent train station and is 90 meters high, spread over 22 floors. 1200 employees of the Flemish government are to work in this part of the building (Flemish Administrative Center).
