The commercial program Virtual CD is a CD / DVD - Emulator , which is a software for emulation of optical drives CD-ROM and DVD-ROM.
General Information
The so-called virtual drives behave exactly like physical drives. There is no difference to actual drives for either the user or the programs. Operation and integration into the operating system do not differ from "real" drives. Nevertheless, virtual data carriers can also be inserted into real drives. In addition, virtual burners can be created, which behave like normal burners, except that they generate images.
Virtual CD creates images ( images ) of CDs and DVDs. These can be inserted and used like normal discs in up to 23 virtual drives. This also applies to most CDs that cannot be copied due to copy protection . In addition, the images can be compressed and encrypted with a password.
Virtual CD can be seen as a trailblazer for CD emulators. The product has been on sale since the mid-1990s and is currently in version 10.
Virtual CD is available as a single-user version as well as in network-compatible versions for client / server networks and terminal server environments. The Network Management Server is also available for simplified management . These versions are used in schools, universities and companies, among others.
Virtual drives on the notebook
A CD / DVD emulator is also useful for notebook owners. In order to use CDs and DVDs on the go, virtual drives can help to make work easier and save power. The disks do not have to be transported and inserted when necessary, and the power-consuming optical drive is not required.
Burning functions - physical and virtual
In addition to the functions described above, Virtual CD also offers a virtual burner . This offers the possibility of creating virtual CDs without a physical CD burner, for example to test the burning function of a program. This feature is also useful for reviewing a CD or DVD compilation before burning it to real media . This may save you a large number of burned blanks . In addition to the virtual burner, you can also burn physical CDs with Virtual CD if a CD burner is available. In this way, CDs can be copied, images burned or so-called Smart Virtual CDs can be created, which in turn contain executable images.
