The Vischer AG (official spelling in capital letters ) is one of the largest economic law firms and the largest Notary Office of Switzerland with approximately 100 lawyers , accountants and notaries based in Zurich . There are further locations in Basel and Geneva .

history

Vischer goes back to the notary and law firm Lichtenhahn & Heusler, which was founded in 1857 and started operating under the name Gloor, Schiess & Partner in 1990. Together with Christ, Löw, Brückner & Staehelin, the office was one of the most renowned law firms in Basel. In 1998 the two Basel offices merged. In 2000 they merged with the Zurich law firm Pestalozzi, Haegi & Partner. In 2000 the firm was given the new name Vischer, named after Frank Vischer . 2009 so far has been in the form of general partnership run firm into a public limited company with registered office in Zurich and branch office in Basel converted.

The focus of his work is international commercial law , in particular the areas of corporate and capital market law , litigation and arbitration , banking & finance, tax, intellectual property and technology law (IP / IT).

criticism

The law firm is repeatedly referred to in the local media as the "most powerful law firm in Basel". This is justified by the fact that various current and former employees of the firm are or were active in local politics.

In 2018, Vischer took on a mandate for Jamilah Taib Murray, the daughter of the governor of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, her husband and the Canadian Sakto Group against the Bruno Manser Fund, a non-governmental organization based in Basel. The plaintiffs are demanding the deletion of 255 publications relating the Sakto Group to corruption and money laundering in Malaysia. The book “Money Logging” by Lukas Straumann published by the Bruno Manser Fund is affected. On February 8, 2019, the Basel civil court rejected the precautionary deletion of the publications due to lack of urgency. The appellate court confirmed this decision.

On September 30, 2019, a group of friends of the missing environmentalist Bruno Manser organized a silent march directed against Vischer's mandate for the Taib family, which has been criticized as a SLAPP lawsuit . In 2018, the Bruno Manser Fonds had asked Vischer to resign. In September 2019, the Bruno Manser Fund filed a criminal complaint against three persons responsible at Vischer for false accusations and systematic defamation in connection with the Taib mandate.
