Ulrich Vischer

Ulrich "Ueli" Vischer (born December 9, 1951 in Basel ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( LDP ).

Life

Vischer graduated from the Humanistic Gymnasium in 1970 with the Matura . From 1970 he studied law at the University of Basel and graduated in 1974 with a licentiate . He then completed legal internships, for example in 1977/78 at the Swiss Bank Corporation . He was a legal assistant at the Basler Volkswirtschaftsbund. Vischer received his doctorate in 1977 and was admitted to the bar in 1980.

From 1979 to 1992 Vischer worked for the Basler Versicherungsgesellschaft , from 1981 in the general secretariat, finally as general secretary and from 1988 as a country delegate responsible for the company's Italian subsidiary.

Vischer represented the LDP in the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt from 1980 to 1992 . In 1989/90 he presided over the Grand Council. In 1991 he ran unsuccessfully for the Council of States. From 1992 to 2004 Vischer was a member of the government and headed the finance department.

After resigning as a member of the government, he joined the law firm Vischer Attorneys and Notaries as a partner in 2005 . Between September 2005 and December 2019 he was President of the University Council of the University of Basel. Between 2013 and 2019 he was also Master EE Zunft zum Schlüssel .

Since June 2006 he has chaired the Board of Directors of Swiss Exhibition , of which he had previously been a member of the government. In spring 2020 he came under fire and calls for his resignation were expressed. He then announced that he would be giving up the post by the 2021 General Assembly at the latest.

Vischer is married and has two children.
