Viscount Mayo is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of Ireland .

Awards

The title was first awarded in June 1627 to the Irish ruler of County Mayo Tiobóid Bourke (Anglicized Theobald Bourke ), a descendant of Richard de Burgh . The title expired with the death of his descendant, the 8th Viscount, in 1767.

On January 13, 1781, the title Viscount Mayo , of Moneycrower in the County of Mayo , was newly created for the Irish politician John Bourke, 1st Baron Naas , a distant relative of the last Viscount. He had already been raised to Baron Naas , of Naas in the County of Kildare on August 1, 1766 , and was also raised to Earl of Mayo on June 24, 1785 . The Viscountcy has since been a subordinate title of the respective Earl of Mayo.
