Marquess Conyngham of the County of Donegal is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The family's ancestral home was formerly The Hall in Mountcharles near Donegal in County Donegal and is now Slane Castle in County Meath .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on January 22, 1816 for Henry Conyngham, 1st Earl Conyngham , along with the subordinate titles Earl of Mount Charles and Viscount Slane . He had already been raised on December 6, 1789 to Viscount Conyngham of Mount Charles, in the County of Donegal and on November 5, 1797 to Earl Conyngham and Viscount Mount Charles . All of these titles belong to the Peerage of Ireland. From his father he had inherited on May 22, 1787 the title of Barone Conyngham of Mount Charles, in the County of Donegal, which had been given to his great-uncle on January 4, 1781. On July 17, 1821 he was also made Baron Minster of Minster Abbey, in the County of Kent . This title belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and, in contrast to the Irish titles, was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 .

Other titles

The great-uncle of the 1st Marquess held the title Baron Conyngham of Mount Charles, in the County of Donegal on October 3, 1753 , the title Viscount Conyngham on July 20, 1756, and the title Earl Conyngham of Mount Charles, in on January 4, 1781 the County of Donegal and Baron Conyngham of Mount Charles, in the County of Donegal. All these titles belonged to the Peerage of Ireland and expired on his death, with the exception of the barony of 1781, which his nephew, the father of the 1st Marquess, inherited due to a special addition at the award.
